Chant to Make Others Like Us

This chant should be uttered ten times after every prayer. Those who look at us will like us. When uttering this chant, one should imagine that one is looking into another person's eyes. The chant reads:

Ya buduh akhadztu qalbuhum wa sam'uhum wabasaruhum 'ala mahabbati fulan bin fulan bihaqqi Lailaha illallah Muhammadarrasulullah.

Charm to Become Rich

Whoever recites this charm seven times every Friday is bound to become rich before two Fridays have passed. The verse, as narrated by Sheikh Abdul Qadir al-Fakihi in Bidayat al- Hidayat is as follows:

Ya mubdi'
Ya rahimu
Ya wadud
'aghnini bihalalika 'an haramik wa bita 'atika
'an ma'siyatik wa 'aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

Muradbeg Kulenović

During the time of Austro-Hungarian occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina there was a whole constellation of extremely successful Imam's i.e. spiritual leaders which performed small miracles with their religious and mystic knowledge and in that way they became an integral part of folk legends. One of those people is the famous Imam Muradbeg Kulenović from Bosanski Petrovac about whom there is a recorded text in the Ethnographic museum of Zagreb of 1934.

The content of the talisman a person carries is determined by the religion he belongs to. But, as it was customary in the past for the Imam to write for Christians or Christian priests to Muslims, the talismans were mixed, but this is a rare occurrence today. Catholic and Orthodox priests no longer write inscriptions for over 70-80 years, and Imam's write still to this day but to a lesser degree than before, this is way Christians contact them when in trouble. Priests were healers from the old days since in diseases and accidents one can see God's punishment, influence of evil spirits and living beings, therefore they performed various ceremonies and rituals in order to protect people from evil and disease. They included various sacrifices, prayers as well as other rituals which included hanging talismans and amulets. Over time they increased the use of various drugs, but over a long period of time they mixed all possible agents with the amulets and talismans. It was considered that they ward off various diseases for which there was no cure, such as mental illnesses which cannot be cured by normal drugs. The famous folk doctor Muradbeg Kulenović from Bosanski Petrovac, once uttered this:

-I learned to make talismans from my father at home in Bosnia and in Istanbul from the Dervish, while I lived there. I would write a talisman while looking at old books and often in the stars (astrology), while I didn't understand drugs much.

He then showed me various ways to finish an inscription, which he partially multiplied on a Schapiograph since he was old and his hand was shaking, he would write something by hand.

-All my spiritual patients, he called the mentally ill in this way, received three talismans each. One would be wrapped initially in a dry, then in a wax cloth and it would be worn alongside the body, the other part would be cut off and after seven days it would be thrown gradually into a fire, which also contained incense, the fumes would be inhaled, the third talisman would be placed inside water, which contained water from three springs, the water would be drunk for twenty one days, the diseased would also use this water to wash his face in the morning for fourteen days. People from all over the place come to purchase my talismans, they also call me from far away, to see the mentally ill and to chase away the devils when they throw things at the house (here we are talking about a belief that devils/vampires can throw rocks at someone's house at night). I can make a girl come to a boy which he desires and vice versa, all they have to do is carry my inscriptions and utter basmice (magical formulas) which I give them, then blow down their body, so for example this basmica:

I entered golden through a silver door,

sounded like a weapon,

shone like the sun,

entered into everyone's heart,

amin velezalim.

or:

"O my dear,

ahrum, bahrum, čikti vehrum;

as much as you thread there,

so much will be returned here,

amin, velezalim

During this he showed me numerous letters and telegraphs, which he received from patients, he talked gladly about his successes.

-They brought one mad person, which was possessed by a devil, who didn't want to pray to god, he just cursed. I uttered a prayer and made an inscription, and I sent him into town to buy cigarettes. He went alone and returned normal with the cigarettes.

From such conversations with this so called doctor, who claimed that he doesn't practice medicine, but cures the mentally ill with inscriptions, one could make out that he wrote against spells, that he cures various diseases, and that he writes different things for different diseases. Other unofficial healers and Imam's do the same even to this day.

These are some of the talismans that Imam Muradbeg Kulenović wrote:

Muhamed Radončić

In February 1990 in his 50th year, Imam Muhamed Radončić passed away, a long-time champion for proper understanding of curing with the Qur'an. He was successful as a healer, but at the same time he worked at Gazi-Husrefbeg madrasah where he tried to change the negative stance of certain circles of the Islamic eldership about the activities of the Imam-healers. He largely managed to do so. During the first contact with him, one would see that he is an intellectual of a higher rank, with completed higher theological schools with which he differentiated himself from other individuals which falsely represented themselves. His work room was always full of books from different areas regarding the human mind. An honourable place was of course held by the Qur'an but also the holly books of other religions.

-The Jinn can attack anyone, but it is easier for them to attack liable persons. When a man comes to me who is tormented by a certain issue, I already know what his issue is after a short conversation. The most important thing to me is the manifestation of the issue. Healing process usually takes from six weeks to six months, and rarely a year. It can happen that I'm unable to help someone who has a similar issue that I solved previously in another person. There are numerous reasons for this. Either I haven't "located" the disease, or I didn't offer a corresponding recipe (talisman), but the cause is more often that the patient didn't follow the instructions  - emphasised Radončić. He always warned that those that foretell destinies, or give completely wrong talismans and amulets which contain no words, and with some not even a letter from the Qur'an, charlatans and Jinn's allies, whose number mustn't be understated in our area. Only the experts, who are also powerful enough, can help the diseased and troubled. During the conversation Imam Muhamed mentioned a few of such people. His opinions about some so called borderline sciences are also interesting.

-Palmistry, radiestezy and some other similar areas are Jinn's deceptions, and contacting Jinn's brings a lot of danger. Here we also have a widespread use of black magic, which I think is a more dangerous from scourge such as drugs, alcohol, AIDS, and various other addictions and perversions. Practitioners of black magic can cause the following issues: disruption of marital harmony, women can have spontaneous miscarriages or cannot get pregnant at all, impotence in men, joint pain, face deformity or similar things. With late Muhamed Radončić, as with many Bosnian healers that use Qur'an, people of different levels of education came, from university educated people to those that are not educated at all. Even people of other religions and atheists came.

-God is one and his power is available to all and directed to everyone. I am visited by people who as soon as they arrive say that they don't believe in god, but that they haven't found a cure in other places and that I'm their only hope. I don't discuss with them about their stance towards religion, but I don't refuse to help them, with God's help. And I often succeed with such, i.e. in most cases - Imam Radončić said.

Sulejman Pekarić

It is offered to man to choose his way and there are two forces influencing him when he is making his decisions - one good and one evil. Which one prevails and makes a greater influence on him, will cause him to choose that type of way. It happens during one's entire life.

When a man finds a wallet full of money, the evil will tell him to take all the money since it will allow him to purchase many things, the good will suggest that he seeks the owner of the wallet, since he too would be glad if someone returned his belongings if he had lost them. If he is more prone to be influenced by evil, it will win, if he is more prone to the influence of good, he will do the right thing.
These are the paraphrased words of the legendary healer and Imam Sulejman Pekarić from Gradačac. We are talking about a man who many consider to be the best healer which uses the Qur'an in the second half of the twentieth century.
Though in his elderly years (discussions lead a few times during 1989) his mind still functions well, and his sentences are full of exalted wisdom. Albeit of a modest education, yet with numerous years of religious education, his vocabulary is rich and his lectures full of interesting facts. While his hearing is not serving him well, he sees and hears what many cannot.
Once I spoke to an Imam the entire afternoon without noticing any redundant sentences. When he speaks of religions, then he does so with respect, no matter the religion. When he speaks of his work, then the narrative exudes modesty. When he speaks of the material and spiritual, then the advantage is always on the side of the spiritual. And when he speaks of good and evil, then the main characters are from the parallel world of the spiritual beings.
-Spiritual beings are organised almost as humans, but their powers are much greater. There are good and evil beings, and to this division is linked to honest and dishonest and to believers and non-believers. They have languages like humans that's why humans can contact and influence them. They have certain places in which they attack humans, and in other places they won't attack. That's why there are those negative places which are often the topic of conversations. In contacts with them one can find out everything which has to do with humans. But, only humans can initiate contact with them and they have the talent to do so. If I conclude that a person had been attacked by spiritual beings - Jinn, I simply speak to them in my own way. It happens that the culprit runs far away, they are capable of running around the entire globe in just seconds, I find him with the help of other spiritual beings and force him to leave the person alone. It often resembles a real trial. The strongest, and I believe the correct weapon to use against the Jinn is the Qur'an. There are parts of the Qur'an which have such an influence that the Jinn can be burnt, mentioned Imam Pekarić.
He spoke about the most interesting examples in his extremely rich career. Though the work of religious healers was banned for years, the communist authorities of that time did not interfere with their work, they even respected it. Often the influential people came on their own and sent their acquaintances to help them, in which he often succeeded.
For example, he was once visited by a man from the police whose son suffered from epilepsy. In the beginning Imam Sulejman didn't want to receive them, excusing himself that he is no longer allowed to work, and in fact he was cross at the fact that the work of the healer Imams was banned. This man that visited him even had a written recommendation from a very important figure of that neighbourhood, but in the end the decision was made based on the human desire to help and not on the recommendation. The legendary Imam helped him in the next few days. Once he was visited by a man who was attacked by the Jinn and who has fallen mentally ill. An entire village was restless because of him. They brought him bonded. He couldn't bare his own father in his vicinity, but once Sulejman saw him, he unexpectedly calmed down. In his eyes you could not notice the characteristic glow which speaks of hell that has taken hold of someone's soul and not the glow that speaks of something nice and healthy.
-First I tried to be polite with the Jinn, but it didn't produce results, so I started using other methods. I wrote certain symbols on the forehead and read the Qur'an for hours above him, Sulejman remembered.
The Jinn that possessed this man resisted for a long period, they fought and the healing lasted very long and was incredibly laborious. Even the family of the diseased which waited in the adjacent room got tired, the scene took place in the Imam's house in Donja Orahovica a suburb of Gradačac. Large drops of sweat on Sulejman's face spoke of the effort, strained veins and widened pupils, while the body of the patient assumed a bluish colour and for a long period of time he was in a half-conscious state. In the end the effort was worth it and the healing was successful. In the afternoon of the next day, the man went back to his village healed.
But, after two days in front of my door were fifty people from his village, which wanted me to help them solve some of their issues. I barely managed to explain to them that I couldn't receive them all. Since, these were not apples that one can divide and make all things well. With the diseased one must labour for a long time, but in a polite manner - says Imam Pekarić.
When he was younger he participated a few magic sessions. Whenever he wished, he used his inborn abilities, employing methods only known to him, to interrupt the work of the magicians, though it seemed that he was sitting peacefully in the attendance. Simply put, the magicians couldn't focus.
Conditions that one must fulfil if he wishes to practice this specific and exalted work, according to him, and he follows ancient rules, are very strict:
The one that works fairly, must have a good teacher first and receive a diploma from him, and of course religious teachings. After that he must receive, so to say, a work permit from secret and invisible authorities, i.e. from good spiritual beings - angels.
Many, besides learning, are not capable of contacting spiritual beings. When all of this is done, there still remain some things that the teacher doesn't transfer to the student and which he must master himself. Further, healer mustn't eat anything that has a strong smell. He mustn't move during the night, he must spend the night at the place where night catches up to him, because the Jinn have more strength at night to approach him and there is a greater chance of an attack - says Imam Pekarić.
Continuing the conversation with Sulejman, he admitted that he was attacked by the Jinn a few times. His hands would be bound in knots at that time. He barely managed to free himself of their influence.

Another world will appear which will be based on different foundations

Imam Sulejman Pekarić in conversations often mentions a mysterious book which contains everything about the human race, in the past, present and some guidelines for the future, It serves as a bridge which connects with the times and spaces which are unreachable by human eyes. It is the window in that part of the time in the sea of infinitude, which is given to the human race to create something which could be called heaven on earth, if they are capable and if they deserve it. That period lasts for 7000 years exactly and after that judgment day will come. That time is almost at an end, and according to Sulejman Pekarić, there is less than 50 years. Unfortunately, man didn't create the thing for which an opportunity was given. The answer to the question if this book deviated from the religious books and their messages we did not receive. The essence is obviously too mystic and available only to the chosen ones. My efforts to see the book, ended in absent gazes of the Imam. Inhabitants of the household explained that he guards this secret jealously and that it is hidden at a place that he only knows. It is, however, along with natural talent and gained knowledge, the thing that makes him a good mage among the Bosnian healers. With the help of this book after WWII he told the people from the new government what awaits their system which they will create in the future. This was recorded in hidden archives.
Until today that event matches the predictions. Imam Sulejman predicted the final events in Eastern Europe, but he considers that they, though positive won't end as people expect. He repeats that the period of 7000 years is almost at an end. Sometime after that, a new world will appear based on completely new values.

Bosnian spiritual medicine

All across Bosnia and Herzegovina stravarke, and also some Imam's, claim that a much smaller percentage of physical and mental issues are caused by the effects of black magic in comparison to four supernatural phenomenon to which people are subject to on a daily basis. We are talking about spellbound eyes (envy and jealousy), fear (stress), ogroma (direct contact with spirits) and wind. While there are relatively few people that possess skills of black magic, since such practice requires a large knowledge and capability of communication with spirits, the mentioned four phenomena exist regardless of magic, even though they comprise its main components.
All of the above mentioned is tightly connected with our lives through an everyday tempo, meetings with other people but also our surrounding, which is increasingly polluted by waste and faeces, which is a favourable surrounding for the spread of wind (activity of evil spirits) i.e. effects of unseen forces and energy. All our encounters with such apparitions, if we're not protected by an amulet, have a negative effect on the psyche but also human health.
This is why most people are confused when coming across with spiritual healers (stravarke) who claim that their disease or issue are not a result of some wizard practicing black magic but that their state was inflicted on them by accident or by their carelessness.
We should point out that all people are not subject to the effects of the mentioned spiritual phenomenon but a large percentage is, especially sensitive persons with lighter skin and eyes, for which the Bosnian stravarke usually say are like "magnet for evil spirits".

Winds

According to the claims of Bosnian folk doctors there are a few types of wind i.e. there are a total of nine and they are named as follows: red wind, black wind, yellow wind, Satan (Jinns), pasji sugreb, scabs, measles, itch and wild fire. By the intensity of activity some are weaker and some stronger. Even though there are numerous ways for a man to come into direct contact with them the most frequent one is when passing next to garbage. If at that moment, the man is passing by a load of rubbish. If at that moment, while the man is passing by the rubbish, a wind blows over the rubbish and hits the person there is a large possibility that the person unawares has suffered a direct hit with negative energy, whose effects will be seen later after some time.
Winds of smaller intensity require a certain time period in order to accumulate enough strength capacity in the human body i.e. to develop. Frequent symptoms of their effect are headaches, and from some vomiting. From most of the enumerated types of wind a man can get a skin disease such as measles, spots, skin redness or even psoriasis. Out of some stronger winds a person can even die. So called black wind falls into this category since it causes cancer with its negative effect and in a lot of cases it encompasses a small portion of the neck.
Curing the effects of wind usually take longer, sometimes even years. If a shorter period has passed from the appearance of the disease, for example three years, then the diseased can be cured in a year, etc.
It is considered that the winds are actually manifestations of invisible beings such as Jinn and faeries, which don't have to be evil or antagonistic towards humans, they could be startled by a passer-by, who has accidentally walked into an area which they consider to be their own, where according to beliefs they spend their time, dance or eat, and they answer to this provocation by attacking.
That's why whirlpools of wind, places where dogs urinated, waste dumps, or places where there is blood, urine, hygienic pads, bones, etc. from the old days are considered to be places where invisible, usually negative, beings gladly gather and spend some time. Traditionally such places are being avoided or when one is passing through he is praying to God for protection.

Ograma or Ogramak

Ograma or nagaza is a folk name in BiH which explains that a person crossed over a place where invisible beings are gathered or through items of black magic i.e. across a place over which dirty water has been spilt, often a ritual of neutralising black magic. Namely, according to an ancient rule, a person that is under the influence of black magic from a stravarka or Imam receives a talisman which is submerged in a bottle of clean water and after a few hours one bathes with the water and the residue of the water is then spilt on an intersection or street. First person that passes by will become a victim or better to say, negative energy will pass onto him. That magic transmission is extremely familiar in rituals with lead when a piece lead along with a bank note is brought onto an intersection and leave it with the goal of a random person picking it up. Ograma also happens in other instances, especially when one passes over dirty places. Many of us, especially those that do not take off their clothes when entering their home, can accidentally bring on the souls of their shoes a small item or a blood stain, urine or something else and in such a manner accidentally summon evil into their home.
Ograma, just like winds, has a very negative effect on the human body and often causes inexplicable pain in the legs, headaches, restless dreams, and over time it can cause panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, etc.

Spellbound eyes

Another negative manifestation which like all the others comes usually by someone accidentally coming into contact with people or living environment are spellbound eyes. All cultures of the world are familiar with the belief of detrimental effect that spellbound eyes or words have on people. That's why there are countless ways of defending and protecting against it. Evil eye is defined as the influence of mental forces and their ability to produce a negative effect on a material level, especially on live beings and especially man. Moving force of evil eye from various places but it is often induced by the feeling of hatred, envy, contempt but also love, passion, etc. For that reason human eyes can harm another person consciously or unconsciously. We all have that ability and it is wrong to consider that only negative people can harm someone with a gaze.
Bosnian stravarke claim that urok i.e. effect of evil eyes occurs in combination of a gaze full of positive or negative emotions which follow similar words or statements. Three days are necessary for such supernatural effect to develop inside a human and for it to start causing some of the following symptoms: headache, raised temperature, nervousness, insomnia, weakness of the body, depression, etc.

Fear

We divide fears to conscious and unconscious. Conscious fears we recognise and we know of what we are afraid of. However, unconscious fears are different. It simmers inside of us, even though we do not register it. It lives in our soul subtly and drains its energy. Fear is one of the biggest "thieves" of positive feelings. With fear we spread negative energy. It seeks our weak points and in such a manner it drives us and our thoughts. One of the biggest energy consumers is stress. Also low, but chronic level of stress, reduces the level of energy, it can drain a person both mentally and physically, even if that person spends its day in bed. Fear and restrained rage are basic segments of all stress, which has an extremely destructive effect on our physical and mental state. Classic syndrome of fear is the ability to change mental but also physical state of a person. In Bosnian folk medicine people are warned that fear is extremely harmful for humans since the body of the person subject to great shock or long term stress is tightened, shrinks, the body is tense and is in a way changed i.e. deformed. Though there is a lot of harmful manifestations of fear these are the most frequent: nightmares, panic attacks, nervousness, loss of self-confidence, arrhythmia, sexual issues, frequent headaches, stomach issues, etc. Fear also blocks people in all areas of their lives and they become unhappy and unsuccessful both in love and in their professional career.

JINN INVOCATION

Contact with the spirit world is as old as man himself. In all civilizations in the past, without exception, there were mystical rituals for this purpose, which were a privilege of a small group of people, and secret knowledge and wisdom were guarded behind "seven locks". In Bosnia and Herzegovina the most famous way of invoking good or bad demons is called - daira. Little is known about this process since it has been reserved for individuals, usually individual religious teachers or individuals proficient in magic.

Daira is an Arabic word which means circle. Practicing daire would literally mean - gathering Jinn into a circle. This is partially true since the practitioner with the help of a medium and accompanying props establishes communication with the Jinn, in order to discern the reason for the disease of a human, and to free a person from the possession of a demon and to completely cure him or her. The entire ceremony resembles a spiritual summoning of ghosts, but there are a lot of essential differences. While in spiritual séances of ghost summoning, the medium and those present don't have the opportunity to see the ghosts with their eyes, in the daire ritual, no matter how fabulous it may seem, the Jinn are quite visible!

Muhamed Garčević writes about this in his book "Zapisi i hamajlije"(inscriptions and amulets) published in 1942 in Banja Luka - "As different as it is, it is as dangerous. Especially for the ones not capable of such work. Even for people skilled and capable in that magical act, things happened, and the incompetent were hurt in such a manner that they were disfigured both physically and mentally for the rest of their lives. The revenge of the Jinn for the careless and incompetent practitioners would end in one of the following ways: their mouths would move to their ears to the left or right side, their legs or arms would be numb, they would lose their vision, they would be mute or would stutter their entire lives, etc.

According to Muhamed Garčević, persons which desire to invoke the Jinn, i.e. those trying to communicate with them, first must be god fearing, they must not eat food of animal origin (meat, eggs, fat,...), and bring vegetarian cuisine to a minimum; abstain from frequent sexual acts, spend more time in prayer than sleeping, guard oneself from another's hakk (appropriation of another's property), live humbly on one's own salary, respecting all values of the religious codex!

It is not hard to discern that with this way of life one wants to strengthen the spiritual side of the human nature which largely helps when one invokes the Jinn (daire) and authoritative communication with the Jinn, which easily spot the weak, reckless and uncontrolled persons. On the other side, only moral persons strengthened by prayers are capable of making effective talismans and amulets and carry all the risks which bring with themselves contact with evil spiritual beings.

Ritual invocation of the Jinn requires large physical and mental effort and is not practiced often. To minimise the risks, the practitioner with the help of a special astrological system, determines the correct day and hour when he will start the mystical ritual. When that moment arrives, the invoker - as Garčević mentions - takes ablution (washing face and specific body parts, which every Muslim performs before the start of the prayer), acquires sedžada i.e. a clean mat on which the religious ceremony is performed, as well as a smaller dish, in which some hot ember is placed, on which he will burn incense sticks or scented roots while the ritual lasts, and takes a midsized knife with a black handle, as an open threat for the wicked and disobedient Jinn.

The séance is done in a clear and ventilated area, rarely fumigated by pleasant oriental fragrances, on whose walls there cannot be a photograph or a painting of people or animals on which their eyes are evident, and for the failure a medium is necessary. Usually it is a boy or girl aged between ten and twelve years, if possible with green eyes, since people with green eyes, it is believed, establish contact with spiritual beings easier than others. It is usually hard to reach the child, therefore the practitioners of the ritual, as Garčević mentions, usually engage the child with a trick, not explaining to him that he will be an intermediary between him and the Jinn.

When this ritual is organized to cure a mentally ill person, the patient is usually accompanied by his closest kin, cousin or friend, who has a duty to answer instead of the diseased. But, the moment the talk begins, he must pray to Allah and he mustn't show fear, disturbance and react no matter what happens in the room during the ritual. The woman during their menstrual period are not allowed to be present during the ritual, skilled and able practitioners can free the diseased from physical ills and attack from the Jinn even though he owns a personal item of the person that he is representing. One could say, therefore, telepathically, but actually it is not telepathy. We are talking about something else.

There are a dozen ways of attracting Jinn. Some are more and some less complicated, but all carry certain danger and risks and are therefore not recommended to unstable, greedy and religiously uneducated people, especially those who do not follow the values of religious codex. Before this mystical procedure is initiated it is necessary to prostrate the sedžada towards kibla (southeast). The practitioner and his medium (girl or boy) will sit on it on their knees. Their faces must be turned towards each other, and their knees must touch at all times.

After that the practitioner takes the knife with a black handle, with the blade of the knife to his left he begins to draw the circle around himself and the medium. While drawing the circle, in an undertone he utters the 255 chapter of the prayer Bakara. The duration of the drawing should coincide with the duration of the prayer. Then he thrusts the knife to the place where the circle begins and ends and holds it there while the ceremony of invocation is not completed. Close to his hand, in the circle itself, it is mandatory for a bowl with hot embers to be present, in which he will, from time to time, place incense or some other fragranced root.

Ritual of invocation with water

It is necessary to take a larger fildžan (a cup for coffee without a handle) and pour water into it until it barely reaches half. After that on the palm of the child's right hand in which he will hold the cup the following talisman is drawn and written with blank ink:.

Garčević claims that a talisman of same dimensions and content is written on a piece of paper, it is then placed on the child's right palm on which the same talisman is already drawn, then a cup with water is placed on top of all that.
After that, another paper is taken whose dimensions are determined by the width and height of the child's forehead. With black ink on that paper the following words shall be written:.

Paper with a written note is placed on the medium's forehead, so that the text is visible, i.e. legible. When all of this is done, the practitioner takes a knife and makes a circle around himself and the medium. Some practitioners are prone to drawing three circles, because they feel safer by raising a much stronger barrier against the unpredictable and evil Jinn. Namely, during the entire time the Jinn are present, for the practitioner and medium, the only safe place in the room is on the rug delimited by a circle or circles.

With that, however, not all preparatory actions are complete for the ritual to begin. It is necessary to write on four same sized papers a magical square, and write the following Arabic letters inside:.

When he has completed everything, the practitioner takes the papers with the magical squares and throws one by one onto hot embers, namely, in the same dish in which he threw incense, sticks or fragranced resin from time to time during the ceremony. The smell has a special meaning in the entire ritual. The smell itself, should determine the type or sort of Jinn which will respond to the call of the practitioner. If pleasant fragrances are used, then the good Jinn should answer the call, and if unpleasant and heavy smells are used, such as tar, tobacco and the like are used, there is a great possibility that the room will be filled by evil Jinn. All in all, burning and choosing fragrances is very important, since smells, definitely, calm the wrath of the Jinn, affect their mood and obedience, and decreases their drive for revenge.

The rest of the ceremony happens fast. Medium which is holding a cup with water on its palm, covers his head with a light see-through green veil. From that moment on, the gaze of the medium should rest on the surface of the water in the cup. His task is to inform the practitioner as soon as he sees a picture or form on the surface. During that time the practitioner utters the prayer of Jinn invocation and he repeats this until the medium says that he sees an image of Jinn, which mostly remind of dwarfs with pointy hats. Their faces, at least according to Garčević, are more than unusual and ugly: "Lower lip is dragged on the floor, and their ears are so long that they too are dragged on the floor. They're not prone to talking. Usually, they only answer questions or perform orders quietly!"

The moment when the medium sees a wide green meadow on which small demon apparitions start gathering the medium must inform the practitioner of this, to which he usually replies: "Repeat after me! Let your king come!" the medium orders by a very light almost pleading tone, which is correct to do in this instance. Dwarfish figures, which can sometimes be clad in a military uniform, immediately obey and complete the order. when the leader appears among the Jinn, the practitioner, out of respect rises to his feet. He will sit back down when the medium informs him that the king of the Jinn has taken his place on the throne, which his obedient companions have brought with them.

Now comes the most important thing, the thing that started the ritual. Since we are talking about "finding a cure" for the diseased, who is usually present during the entire ceremony, the practitioner tells the medium: "Ask them about the reason of the disease!..." practitioner, of course, presumes that the patient has fell ill because of a Jinn attack, since this ritual is performed only for the diseased who were victims of demon aggression. Because of this the practitioner asks: "Did you bring the attacker?!..." since the medium sees at one moment the Jinn bring a miniature creature, which is no different from the others, he must inform the practitioner of it: "There, they brought him before me. I can see him." This is a sign that the summoned Jinn have completed the order which he requested. The diseased is freed from mental pain, which will be manifested by a short loss of consciousness, and the practitioner begins with certain prayers the process of disbanding the Jinn tribe. Of course, there are prayers which are uttered, if the gathered Jinn are not able to free the diseased from a defiant and stubborn Jinn. Then the ritual lasts longer, and the practitioner must be very experienced and have in his "arsenal" different curses, blasphemies and threats, he must possess strong arguments for his orders to be completed without question, for the tempter to be removed or even liquidated.

Secrets of love magic

When we talk about Bosnian love magic then it is best to start with the truthful story from Prijedor about a woman which had an unfaithful husband, which brought the woman to despair. She found out from her neighbours that by accident her mother in law knew the secrets of love magic so she asked her for help, to make her son a good husband. Raised in a traditional manner knowing that a marriage must be saved, especially for the children, the mother in law agreed to help after she had some time to think but asked her if she knew what she was getting into, since according to her, once one starts with the practice then there is no going back. But, that didn't daunt the young woman.

The mother in law gave advice to find a love frog and two hazelnut twigs and to piss into flour after that, which was once considered a great blasphemy, and to make maslenjak out of the flour which will change the mind of the husband and make her attractive and desirable. She made the dough following the magical recipe and kneading it with her feet she thinned it out on the sofra (traditional round table for preparation of dough among the Bosnians). She then placed a frog on the dough, took two hazel branches and hitting the frog lightly with them she would utter: "call my NN!" then she removes the frog from the dough cuts a circle from it, strips naked and passes the dough against her body, folds it a couple of times, places it into a casserole and places it into a stove to bake it. Finished maslenjak is then served to the unfaithful husband who eats a good part of it not suspecting what he is eating. In a very short time he changed his behaviour towards her and started to shower her with attention and love. But, no magic lasts forever and this one was nearing its end and the young wife noticed that the husband started to be rebellious again and she realised that the mother in law was right - she will have to repeat the magic her entire life if she wants a harmonious marital life.

In Bosnian magic the frog represents a shaytan, i.e. a studiously analysed heavenly being - Grand Mother represented in the form of a witch, which is clearly visible in the second version of the recipe where the frog is not used, instead while passing the dough for maslenjak down her body the girl or woman utters: "shaytan, help me, be of service..." The connection between the shaytan and a frog can be found in the story about the woman from the Dizdarević family and the scene when one of them sees a large pregnant frog on the road and pushing her away with her feet she said to call her when she gives birth, which happens in the end when the devil themselves come for the woman and lead her to the frog i.e. witch to help her during birth.

Love magic also requires strict obedience of the rules and the slightest mistake can cause unwanted effects. Powerful and outstanding love spells of traditional Bosnia are performed with the help of nine bean beads, nine kernels of corn, wheat, nine willow twigs, etc. Which are at the end of the ritual discarded into the fire of a low intensity. Rasima Š. From Bihać admits that she is scared of magic since she had an unpleasant experience with it. She was instructed into the secrets of magic by an old neighbour which she assisted for years with work related to the house. As they became close as time passed, Rasima frequently told her about her marital issues and on one occasion the old lady revealed a few love recipes to her which she used to practice in her youth. As at the time it seemed as if the marital issues will never end, Rasima decided to try out a love recipe with bean beads in hope that they will help her settle her husband and make him a more loyal partner.

-"I did everything as described, except the last part, Rasima revealed, and instead of throwing it into a smaller fire I threw it into a raging one. In the next two days all the members of the household fell ill, all of them complained of fatigue, dizziness, headache and lack of appetite. I was immediately suspicious of what could be the cause of it. I ran to my neighbour to tell her what had happened. She suggested that I light some sugar inside the house, ground coffee and a stem of rue (ruta graveolens) and that after half an hour I should open all the windows and doors. On the same day I performed all of this the members of the household miraculously got better?! Since then I never dabbled with magical recipes".

Spell to create a Jinn

In Bosnian magic there were rituals which were used to create a Jinn (demon) which will serve those witches which helped with his birth. But, rules of such and similar rituals are often rigorous and demand somewhat unusual conditions which need to be met in order to reach the desired result. Of course, there were those witches who managed to circumvent some of the rules with their knowledge and wit, thereby reaching their goal - creation of a demonic servant.
In order to successfully complete a magical task a girl, which will become the "mother" of the future Jinn, must meet two criteria, from which the second one is very difficult. The girl needs to be seventeen, if she is younger or much older she won't meet the strict rules of witchcraft, which is a pretty simple task compared to the second one. Namely, a more important condition is that she never spoke to a man in her life, not even her father?!
If one happens to find such a candidate, then her task is not to wash her face or comb her hair for seven days, in order to expose herself to the sun in such a condition. After the seven days pass she takes an egg from a black chicken with a short tail, but a small egg, the one which is called among the folk pronosak oiznosak. She will carry that egg under her armpit for a month, taking care that the egg is with her during the night as well. At the very end of this time period instead of a chicken a monstrous creature will appear which is called cikavac in Bosnian mythology. But, with that her magical task is not completely over, since cikavac is still not a Jinn.
It is believed among the folk that in the past of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially rural areas, there were many cikavac which the local witches used for their egoistic and criminal goals, i.e. stealing of milk, cheese and sour cream from their neighbours. Though miniature creatures these creatures had a large pharynx (or gullet) in which they would store the milk, cheese or sour cream which they devoured in the houses during the night. Cikavac  is also a being which suck the blood out of an udder and would leave it completely without milk. When they returned to their witch after their visit, they would empty into a wooden dish everything they stole. In such a manner they would supply their mistress with all the dairy products to the detriment of her neighbours.

More ambitious witches weren't satisfied with owning a cikavac instead they wanted to create more powerful beings, which in the future could offer them a wider range of services, therefore they would wrap a cikavac into a swath for 21 days, like a mother would her child, made out of hairs taken from the tail of a brown horse. In that time the cikavac would slowly transform into a demonic being, a small mixture of an animal and a human, which would consider the witch her mother and it would be able to fulfil numerous wishes. But, since the Jinn is a pretty intelligent and evil being, with a constant hunger for human souls, in the beginning his services are free but later, when he managed to create a certain dependence towards himself, he would offer the witch a deal which would be based on trade - she will be his master as long as she is alive and after her death the witch will give him her soul.
Such a deal was acceptable for both parties since witches yearned for great power with whose help they could perform various miracles and in a sense rule destinies of individuals while the lifespan of a human presents no problem for a Jinn, since unlike humans the Jinn live for a few thousand years.
And in the end we need to mention that among the Bosnian folk there was a firm belief that women are more successful and better than man in the world of magic, which is often reasoned by this short tale. On one occasion a man and a woman made a bet who will talk a demon into entering an empty pumpkin. The man tried first but all his persuasion attempts ended negatively. Then it was the woman's turn. She took the pumpkin seductively and brought the opening of the pumpkin next to her eye and she started to wonder and gasp. Struggling to bear his curiosity the demon asked her what is her amazement and why is she so exalted by what she sees, to which she replied: "My dear demon, I cannot describe it to you in words what wonders I see in the pumpkin. You need to see it for yourself, enter and see." After those words the demon thought to himself "I could enter quickly to see what is so amazing in that pumpkin". As soon as the demon thought this he entered the pumpkin, the woman sealed it and took away the bet.

Black magic

Powerful black magic is created with cloth with which a vagina has been wiped after a sexual relation and which has traces of sperm. The mage can perform this sexual union only with a woman he is not married to or in a relationship with. After that this piece of cloth can be used in various ways: for creating love spells, strengthening potency, separation from lovers, etc. The cloth is especially suitable for summoning Jinn-servants. According to the opinion of Iranian and Arabic wizards this piece of cloth contains great power, which comes from the connection of sperm and vaginal secretion, since both fluids contain important magical content. Similarly this cloth can be used as incense for summoning evil Jinn's.
In Bosnian magic a woman which wishes to tie down her husband's sexual power, she uses a cloth to wipe sperm from her body and then goes to the graveyard with the cloth. There she seeks for a grave in which a dead man is buried with the same name as her husband and ties the cloth around the gravestone into a knot uttering: "As this cadaver is helpless and cold so should you be helpless and cold for all other women besides me, with my desire and god's command, amin veledalin!" Then she goes home without looking back.

Talismans

Talismans, tilsum or tilisum, menas precious, dedicated item... In Arabic language, when the word tilsim, written in the original, read in reverse it would read musala-lat, which means pest, so the word itself is tilsim, considered by some magic authorities, that's why a word written in reverse since the item it signifies has the task to repel a possible demon attack. It is usually a short, but powerful content, written in numbers and secret letters (symbols), which are often underlined. Strength and efficiency of the talisman usually depends on the one creating them. If that person knows secret teachings, if they correctly use the technique of construction, and if they know astrology and the most efficient content which are written; if he performs a job in the spirit of religion - professionally and piously - then the preparation of the talisman will work argumentatively, will have full meaning and will fully reach its goal.

By everything previously written it is easy to conclude that science about talismans or ilmultilsum is one of the most challenging magical discipline, since it requires from the practitioner a lot of knowledge and familiarity with spiritual secrets. In an occult manual, after a detailed description of the rules and guidelines, there is a warning at the end: "During the performance of this kind of work one may not leave out anything. If you make a mistake or leave something out all your efforts will be in vain!".

Besides theoretical and practical part, the construction of talismans is based on numerous rules and detailed use of a special way of converting letters into numbers which is called abjad-hisab, which in fact represents the very core of talisman religion. In Iranian magical tradition there is an interesting method of figuring out on which material the talisman needs to be constructed: after the wish is converted onto abjad-hisab, for example love, the obtained sum is divided by the number 3. If the final number is:
1 - tilsum needs to be engraved onto copper, iron, silver, gold, etc.
If after we subtraction we receive number 2 - the talisman is written onto paper, and if the final number is;
3 - the talisman is written onto animal skin.

Although, as we find out, success with talisman magic depends on numerous items we mustn't forget to mention the rule on selection of the ideal time for work. We specially note to avoid certain unlucky days which exist in every Arabic/lunar month: 3, 5, 13, 16, 21, 24, 25. These days are considered especially negative since there are special hours so called hours of the Jinn where one of the seven dangerous demon winds blow. The magi which is familiar with the hours of the winds can use their power and make a very powerful black magic spell.

Surely, among the more important items of the talisman magic is determining menazilulkamar (moon house) i.e. one of the 28 stations in which the moon is located. The one that is especially important is the one called Al-Butain whose period represents an ideal time for creating magic, talismans and magical squares, especially the ones from the domain of love magic. Similarly, Al-Butain is suitable for rituals dedicated to wealth, for opening destiny (luck), spells for recovery, etc.
Before you begin with the construction of talismans, especially if it is made to realise a love desire, the magi must, through analysis of astrological profiles of two persons discern how compatible they actually are i.e. in what relation and position their planets and horoscope signs are. With talismans one needs to be careful since they can cause a lot of issues to the person using them, if the talisman itself is not in accordance with certain rules connected to it. For example, if there is misunderstanding and conflict between two people, the first thing that the magi must do is find the cause of the misunderstanding by analysing the influence of the stars and zodiac signs. If it turns out that the reason for the fight is the lack of harmony between the planets a certain talisman is built. When the talisman is completed it needs to be hidden in the vicinity of the house where it won't be exposed to the influence of water. The purpose of this talisman is to stimulate the betterment of the relationship between the man and the woman. It doesn't have any effects if same sex conflict is in question.
The interesting thing when it comes to the use of this talisman is the fact that this talisman must not be created for invalids, people with epilepsy, or people who are married but have extramarital relationships. Similarly, the client must not be a thief nor can he consume swine meat.
If there are misunderstandings between two persons that love each other, and the conflicts are not caused by their will, a special talisman is being used whose effect will be shown in the next seven days. Besides it bringing peace between the spouses, this talisman is used for disease, bad luck, hunger, poverty, death of children, etc. But, if it is used for other purposes the talisman will cause a lot of issues to the owner in all walks of life.

Ideal for magic but also against magic

Talisman's are dualistic, they can equally be used for both positive and negative goals. Similarly, one can neutralise black magic with the aid of talismans. One of the great mages Ibn Hadž described his encounter with the ruler of the strongest Jinn, known under the name Ifrit's, king Dehmuš during which he revealed to the mage the best way to cancel all type of magic.
-"A couple of years ago I spoke to the king of the numerous Jinn - Dehmuš. I asked him about the symptoms which are characteristic for persons that have magic cast unto them. He replied: There are 30 types of magic "after he swore by Allah and Solomon that he won't lie, Dehmuš said: "Person that is spellbound is like a house whose door is locked. Is there another way to enter the house without unlocking the door with a key?" he asked - "There is no other way". I replied. He continued with the questions: "If a man stings himself on a thorn or is pierced by an arrow, will the pain pass before the thorn or arrow are taken out from the body?" - "No, it will not pass", I replied. The king of the Ifrit told me: "Oh, Ibn Hadžadž, before all else, for all types of magic one needs a high level of seriousness and correctness during the creation of spells". After the Jinn king revealed all types of magic to him, Ibn Hadž asked him: "Oh Dehmuš! What is the cure for these types of magic?" Dehmuš shook his head. - "Describe to me and make known to me the remedies used against such magic", I told him. After which Dehmuš replied: "Magic can only be cured and neutralised with the help of talismans."

Baraka - the power of god's blessing

To be successful in constructing amulets and talismans sometimes it is not necessary to have contacts with higher or lower spiritual beings, instead you can be preordained for such work during birth. The secret lies in mysterious power of god which is called baraka.
Baraka or al-baraka is sometimes called "religious power" which stems directly from the prophet Muhammad and is continued through his descendants and Sufi brotherhood. It is believed that the power of baraka is therefore possessed by sheiks, Marabout (medicine man) and mystics. It is symbolized by the letter B which we can see in the content of numerous magical squares (wafq) as an upturned letter B.
Therefore Baraka is a positive energy and is concentrated in amulets and talismans, in certain types of objects such as ceramics or cloth, in plants, fragrances, etc. People with the power of Baraka are the ones that can cure people from the effects of black magic but also bless others. In Algeria it is believed that even after a person dies in its grave the Baraka continues with its beneficial effect and the graves of those people become cult places.
In Bosnia fo the people that possess the power of baraka it is said that they are "sevapli ruke" i.e. of a lucky hand. Such persons, according to belief, can successfully remove the effects of black magic, create amulets and talismans, and help those unlucky in matters of love but also those in love. Only a noble and kind person can have a lucky hand.
It is considered that the first prayer in the Qur'an Al-fatiha possesses the power of baraka in its content and it is always used at the beginning and end of the process of creating an amulet. Ritual turning of the palms towards the sky, while the prayer is being uttered, is an open gesture of seeking god's blessing. In accordance with this it is believed that the amulet itself, called Hand of the Hazrat Fatima, which symbolises god's blessing, words Bismillah (In the name of Allah) and MashAllah (May Allah bless you) possesses the power of al-baraka.

Amulet - the guardian of luck

In Bosnian magic tradition there are numerous ways of defending oneself from negative energy (black magic, evil eyes, demons) but the use of amulets is considered to be especially efficient and effective. Wearing the amulet, besides having an effect on the physical body and aura, has a psychological effect since it gives additional dose of security and self-confidence to the wearer. According to traditional belief it is recommended for every man to wear an amulet in order to be protected from negative energy with which he comes into contact with daily, especially when coming into contact with other people.

Every man has his own destiny, whose course is mostly dominated by luck, but, that positive energy is often blocked by other people with their negative emotions, especially jealousy or black magic. Then the life force of the man can often be blocked and he usually acts only with 50% of his capacity and he doesn't achieve significant results. He constantly has the same negative things occur to him, failures and accidents. The person cannot find an adequate love partner, have business success or he is often sick. That of course has direct effect on the psyche which results in lack of self-confidence, depression, anxious, increased stress, etc. The thing which is especially important when using an amulet is the fact that it has the same effect on the person that believes in its power and on the one that is suspicious.

The content of the amulet, hirz or hijab, is varied and depends mostly on the spiritual knowledge of the one creating it that's why we come across amulets with only one or numerous prayers, amulets with magical squares and certain quotes from the Qur'an, amulets with letters, figures of a human, sword, snake, or amulets with all of the above. In a text amulets of an unknown mage the use and function of the amulet is best described: "To protect from the devil, Jinn, wizard, afrits, against attack, pain, disease of eyes, headaches, weakness, red wind (Erizipel), fever and every disease. The best protection is with Allah. The Merciful always forgives. There is neither power nor strength, only with God, Magnificent and Omnipotent!"
Though it has the power to act in all the mentioned segments people use it mostly if they were victims of a magical attack or they feel that they could become victims. That's why an amulet is always constructed when a man desires to do so, in order to obtain immunity against the negative effect of other people, or as a mandatory rule after the process of elimination of black magic, in order to protect oneself and prevent a possible return of magic.
Namely, like good, evil is also an indestructible energy which can only be moved or transferred onto another person or location. That practice is very famous in Bosnian tradition and the targets of such occult transmissions were usually special categories of people such as "women whose hair is falling out", "men that are going to the mosque", "people separating in a flea market", etc. A strict rule that everyone must follow is that evil mustn't be directed at children nor pregnant women. Rather than everything mentioned the practitioner of white magic directs all negative energy onto abandoned houses or mills or generally "to the dark Hawaii", mythological wasteland, where no sound is heard and where there is no fertility.
Though generally there is a belief that amulet against evil can be created at any time of the day or night, there are still certain preferences which the Bosnian mages adhere to, namely, amulet is traditionally always waited for, i.e. the client has ordered it and after 15 or 30 days he gets it. The reason for this is that in Bosnia it is constructed in the second half of the lunar cycle, last 14 days prior to the lunar cycle, always after midnight. In that way it receives a specific power of protection and elimination of every magical effect.
Since the amulet, at least for the first 40 days, must be in contact with the body, the mage folds the paper he used to write and draw symbols into a shape of a triangle, then it is wrapped in sticky tape and subsequently wrapped in a red cloth, or red cloth bag, and after the expiration of that period it can be carried in the wallet or purse. To the question, why is the bodily contact necessary for the initial 40 days, the simplest answer is that this number represents symbols of physical and spiritual regeneration, but also fate, and that's why it is very present in the tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Text, i.e. the content of the amulet must not come into contact with dust or moisture, that's why it must be protected by sticky tape, so that it's owner can go to the toilet or other places which are considered to be unclean. With the amulet as an addition one often places a leaf of nacre (Ruta graveolens) because of its apotropaic characteristics. It is mandatory to bathe it in smoke from the root of elecampane (Inula helenium) using a special formula.
Every time when the amulet is given to the client, the mage or Imam warns him that he must take care of it since it can lose its power of protection  if someone accidentally or on purpose punctures it with a needle and in such a manner it disrupts its content. That's why an amulet is always taken care of. Similarly, if someone steals your amulet then they can hurt you with black magic.
Besides it having a function to protect from negative energy the amulet is very efficient against diseases but also negative propaganda. Today, as in the past, many companies as well as business people order amulets in order to protect their business space from hate and jealousy of the competition which often uses black magic to destroy their enemies.
There are a few type of amulets: for the protection of individuals, protection of the house, business object, for the protection of the land, etc. If the amulet is being constructed for a person from the family which doesn't want to carry it with herself then the amulet is constructed using a small picture of the owner and is wrapped in a special cloth, coated in wax, then it is positioned above the bed which the man uses to sleep. From that place it will protect him from black magic and attack from the Jinn (demon's).

Mouse - incarnation of a demon

According to a legend in a Bosnian city lived an old Imam known for his magical prudence. It was said about him that at every moment he even knew what the emperor had for dinner. His talismans were especially popular in whose powers no one doubted since whosoever used them ensured their health and success. Not far away from that town lived a judge whose wife suddenly fell ill, but her disease was mental not physical. The judge was very worried about his wife and in the search for the drug he took her to many doctors, priests of all denominations but no one could help her. In the end he went to seek help from the old Imam. As soon as he told him what type of problem he had, the Imam made him a talisman and directed him how to use it: "-take this talisman, put it in your pocket and go to the bridge. Come to the middle of the bridge stop there and wait. A large procession of Jinn will cross the bridge with their king, when he sees you he will ask you why you are standing there, under no circumstances answer any of his questions. Not a single word can leave your mouth! The king will take the talisman from you, he will read it, once all the Jinn disappear you go home".
The judge took the talisman and went home and when night came he went to the bridge and stopped in the middle. Soon he heard a lot of racket from the dark, drums and sounds of numerous instruments and a large army appeared with infantry and cavalry. In front of them all went their king with a large golden crown, dressed in a golden dress. It was king Madhab, ruler of Sunday, one of the seven large kings. When he saw the judge he asked him what he was doing there, the judge opened his mouth to reply but then he remembered the Imam's words as well as his warning and he said nothing. The king asked him the same question twice and then took the talisman out of his pocket, opened it and read it. Immediately he turned to his army and with a deep voice asked: "Which one of you has hurt this man's wife?" One by one the Jinn replied "it wasn't me", "it wasn't me".-And is there a Jinn that's missing? the king asked. -There is one, the limping on, he is not with us now", the Jinn replied. -Fetch him quickly! The king demanded.
As soon as the king gave out the order the limping Jinn appeared in front of him.
Did you hurt this man's wife?
I did, the Jinn replied.
And why did you do it?
Her neighbour came to loan some butter and she told her "I don't have any, sister, the Jinn took it!
When I heard that I took the butter. I thought that it would be good if I had some honey and flour so I can make myself some halva (sweet treat). At that moment her neighbour asked if she could at least loan some honey in a cup to which she replied that a Jinn took it, so I took that as well. The same day an old beggar knocked at her door asking for some flour and she replied "-I don't have that Jinn dust, I sent all my wheat to be ground in a mill!" then I took her flour and stole a pot and started to make halva in her house. When the mixture started to boil in the pot she came and urinated in the pot, and to punish her I slapped her, the limping Jinn gave his account.
You acted accordingly, but you shouldn't have stolen the pot and for stealing I condemn you to the gallows!
The Jinn caught him and hung him immediately. King Madhab wrote something in the talisman and returned it to the judge in his pocket. Instantly the king turned to his army and they disappeared. When he came to himself from the shock and horror the judge looked around him and saw that it was already dawn so he hurried back home. In his bedroom he found his wife sleeping so he woke her up and by her behaviour he realised that she has gotten better. The judge returned to the bridge the same day to see if there are any signs of the large army from the night before but all he saw there was a dead mouse hanging and moving slowly in the breeze.

Signs of magic

A dead mouse on the bridge was always a sign of a successfully performed daire - spiritualistic ritual of Bosnian dervishes and Imam's, for which it was written that sometimes they can cause large storms above the place where the ritual has been performed and that the wind was of such an intensity that it raised the roofs from the nearby houses. The goal of daire was a contact with one of the rulers of the Jinn to which it was suggested to find and punish the Jinn that possessed the body of the deceased. The penalty of the Jinn attacker was always death, which in the material world manifested itself with a dead mouse on the bridge.
According the tales of stravarka Fatima Dizdarević a spell that fails to hit its target (person) would turn into a white mouse. While she would perform a ritual of neutralising the effects of black magic from a person stravarka Fatima would divine using a cup of coffee with the intention to detect the origin of a spell, its purpose but also effect that it had on the targeted person. Among the figures in the coffee residue, the following symbols were very important: black cat - sign of black magic, bat - symbol of love magic, a lot of dots in one place - spell was created using dirt from a grave, pyramid or triangle - talisman magic, etc. If she notices among the residue a figure of a white mouse she would reveal to her client that the magic attack was unsuccessful. Reasons for the lack of success could be in the amulet the client had on him for some time or he was protected by a good deed such as charity which he gave to someone prior to that event or something else.

Bosnian magic: Love knots

To "tie" her husband to herself and secure a long common life, a woman pulls from her underpants and her husband's underpants a long thread. Then she connects them together and ties seven knots on it. Prior to any knot tying the woman repeats the prayer Ihlas and utters:
"on Friday I tied you to myself and your thoughts, kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)
"on Saturday I tied you to myself and your eyes, kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)
"on Sunday I tied you to myself and your ears, kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)
"on Monday I tied you to myself and your mouth, kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)
"On Tuesday I tied you to myself and your arms kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)
"on Wednesday I tied you to myself and your legs, kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)
"on Thursday I tied you to myself and your entire body! kaf, nun - kun" (blows into the knot)

The thread with the knots is worn for seven days on the right side of the body, in the bra, and then placed under the doorstep of the house.

Talisman for the elimination of internal diseases

Through the power of magical words or actions, this type of magic is performed that causes a man or woman to suffer from internal physical ...
