Two Shawia Amulets

These amulets, meant to protect against occult forces such as jinns and the evil eye or natural dangers such as illnesses and poisonous animals, traditionally consist of writing in Arabic characters done with saffron-colored water or ink from burned wool on paper or animal skin. They are worn enclosed in a little leather bag or a silver locket.
