Tales of their role in the history of Iran, Iraq and the neighboring countries are so pervasive, one simply can't dismiss the possibility of their existence. Genies are divided into five types: Marid, Afreet, Sheitan, Ghilan and Jann. The Marid are the strongest, while the Afreet possess vast intelligence. The Sheitan are the ugliest and Ghilan are shape-shifting flesh- eaters.
Jann are mostly known for their habit of stealing cows. A free jinni – one not under the control of a human master – is said to be one of the most dangerous forces in nature.

Followers of the Prophet exercise a strong belief in jinn. Such spirit beings can be benign or frighteningly evil. In many instances, jinn are presented as instruments of temptation. There is a well-known jinn in Morocco who goes by the name Aisha Qandisha. She seeks to seduce men. If a man capitulates to her charms, then he forever becomes her slave. The way to resist such a tragic consequence is to plunge a steel knife into the ground, and break her spell over him.
In Algeria, a similar jinn-spirit is known as Betjallal. The name in Arabic means “lady of splendor.” More than a few Algerian men believe they are married to this jinn and experiance sexual intercourse with her.

Plot Summary: Set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War that tore the Balkan region apart in the 1990s, "In the Land of Blood and Honey" tells the story of Danijel (Goran Kostić) and Ajla (Zana Marjanović), two people from different sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs, and Ajla, a Bosniak's girl, held captive in the camp he oversees, knew each other before the war, and could have found love with each other. But as the armed conflict takes hold of their lives, their relationship grows darker, their motives and connection to one another ambiguous, their allegiances uncertain. "In the Land of Blood and Honey" portrays the incredible emotional, moral and physical toll that the war exerts both on individuals and people as a whole, and the terrible consequences that stem from the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict.

The cup of Jamshed was the invention of the famous Kai-Kosru, third king of the Keyan or Kaianian dynasty, great-grandson of Kai-Kobad. It was made of metal, and bore the signs of the zodiac and magic letters, whereby its possessor could read the future. Jamshed and Alexander the Great are fabled to have in turn owned this treasure.

Jam'i-Jam (also called jdm'i-jaJidn-numd and jdm-i-geti-numd), the cup of Jamshed with geometrical lines on it, by means of which he foretold the future events of the whole world.

Legend has it that Jamshed possessed a miraculous cup, Jam-i- Jamshed (Cup of Jamshed) which, after ablution and prayers, could reveal unto him what he was anxious to know. It was during his time that numerous discoveries were made which are helpful to mankind, general, such as, spinning and weaving, baking of bricks, building of houses, sailing in ships etc. It was during his reign that agriculture was developed, iron weapons were invented, musical instruments were devised and perfume was extracted from flowers.

The advent of spring in the months of February and March and the vernal equinox are the two events that usher the festival of Jamshed-e-Navroz. The actual time when the changes take place is noted down in Iran and the information is passed on all over the world to all Zoroastrians. This festival is mentioned in Shah Nameh, the Persian `Book of Kings' written by Firdausi. According to Firdausi's book, this festival was celebrated by the kings of Persia, Cyrus and Darius, to rejoice in the spring and in their own glory. According to a popular legend, the mythical Persian king Jamshed was the first person to celebrate this festival. The Shah Nameh also states that the feast commemorates the ascension of King Jamshed into the skies, in a chariot built by the demons he had subdued and forced into the service of mortals.

Named after the king, Jamshed-e-Navroz appears to have been a pagan pastoral festival that marked the transition from winter to summer. The rites of fertility and procreation can be perceived in some of its customs. Navroz is a day of joy and celebration. Apart from new clothes, all Parsis wear their gold or silver kustis and caps. Auspicious symbols like fish, birds, butterflies and stars, are patterned on doorways with metallic moulds. Guests are welcomed with sprinkling of rose water and rice. The most traditional drink for Navroz is falooda, which is prepared from milk and flavored with rose petals. The traditional lunch consists of sev and sweet yogurt, followed by pulao. Persian Mythology, Gods and Goddesses

The complete philosophy, doctrine and base for Christianity has been borrowed from the ancient Persian Philosophy of Mitraism (Mithraism.) According to Persian Mythology, Goddess Anahita is the Immaculate Virgin Mother of Goddess Mitra. Christians practically borrowed their doctrine and Holy Scriptures from Ancient Persian Mythology. Christian Church and scholars only changed the Divine Persian names to Christian names! They named "Anahita" as their Virgin Mary and they named "Mitra" as their Jesus Christ! The bases for the Christian Doctrine and writings in many versions of Bible, written by Christian Scholars and Saints has been practically borrowed (Stolen) material from Persian Mythology and Mithraism! This is documented history. So basically Christianity stole its doctrine from Persians. Later on Mohammed (Islam) stole his complete doctrine from bits and pieces of Torah (Jewish Holy Book) and Bible (Christian Holy Book)! For instance, various prayers, fasting, Allowed and Forbidden foods, scriptures, holy events, biblical history and other documents in Islam were all stolen from Judaism and Christianity. Now if you search for all the roots of everything, even mono thesis, it comes from Persian Doctrines of Mithraism, Vedaiism and Zoroastrianism. It all goes back to Persian Philosophies! Ritual against evil eyes and evil spirits (turkey magic)

Ateš Sondurmek. "extinguishing a fire" or "reducing a fever". This curing ritual is performed somewhat similarly to kuršun dokmek, but an ocakli or izinli person is not required. Should a member of a family become sick with a fever (Turk, "ateš'") that is believed to have been caused by the evil eye, any senior female member of the household can apply this remedy. She takes three hot pieces of charcoal from the brazier and drops them into a bowl of water held first over the feverish person's head, then his or her midsection, and lastly his feet. As she drops the coals into the water she says: In the name of Allah. [I do this] not with my hand, but with the hand of Aisha Fatma." This involves a form of sympathetic magic and symbolic transference. For as the fire "ateš" is extinguished, the fever "ateš" is supposed to subside.

Šerbet Dokmek: "to pour a sweet fruit drink". When an individual is troubled by a ruh "soul", akil "mental", or sinir "nervous" disorder which is associated with or follows a fall, his family believes evil spirits are the underlying cause and must be propitiated before health can be restored. Either the ill person, himself, or a member of his family prepares a sweet fruit drink (Turk, "šerbet") in the ordinary fashion. Then a person who can either read or recite the Quran comes to the home and says the Sure-i Ihlas — 112t sura of the Quran — three times and the Fatiha once. Next, he blows over the šerbet. At about midnight, the ill person secretly takes the sweet drink either to the spot where he presumably collided with evil spirits and fell, or to a crossroad where he pours it on the ground, saying, "Take my troubles, give me my health. We give flavor to your mouth, give flavor to ours in return" (we please you, please us in return). The ill person must then return home quickly without looking back.

Knot magic

The expression of «binding» takes us back to the probably oldest branch of Arabic magic where the use of knots play an important role.

Knot magic is another form of magical control Arabs believe in. For instance, a male sexual dysfunction may be regarded as being caused by a jealous woman who wants to destroy a marriage, thus knotting the husband.

This next spell is for women only involves the use of a piece of string.

This spell originates from the Yemen and is mentioned in the Quran. Obtain a piece of string and tie nine knots. Whilst tying the knots repeat the spell:

An-nus....(name of man concerned) Iya budu. Amin


According to lore, the prophet believed at one time that he was suffering from a spell of bewitchment cast by a man whose daughters tied the spell into a cord with 11 knots and hid the cord in a well. Muhammad fell seriously ill. God sent the malaik Jibriel with these two suras and instructed him to teach Mohammad how to use them and where to find the cord. The prophet recited over the 11 knots the 11 verses of the two chapters [the basmalah of sura 114 is not counted within this story as a verse]. At the end of each recital one knot was untied by an unseen power. As soon as all the knots were loosened the prophet was freed from his serious illness.”

The suras of refuge are also described as being widely used in protective magic.

Afghan medicine

Afghan medicine consists mainly of herbs and traditional Arabic medicine. Throughout all the Islamic world you can see the two forms of medical practice. The herbal medicine would require another ten books at least, but the Arabic medicine can be explained within these pages.

Here are a few non-magical remedies for ailments which affect every society.
* Constipation: press on the large intestine with firm and hard pressure and rotate your hand in a clockwise direction.
* Diarrhoea: as above but rotate in an anticlockwise direction.
* Common cold: relief can be obtained by rubbing down the inside of your arms.
* Back pain: rub the palms of you hands together and place them onto your kidneys.
* Eye problems: rub the palms of your hands together and place them on your eyelids for relief, gently rub the bone around the eye then place your palms back on your eye for further relief.

Love magic from Bosnia

For a woman to become a witch or sihirbaza and gain magical powers she needs to take the holly Qur'an and throw it on the ground and stomping it utter: Iblis, help me, I give you my soul, help me in my intentions (or wishes). In Bosnia it is believed that after this blasphemous act she becomes a witch: she can cast love spells, exert revenge on her enemies, become invisible...

In the past, according to ethnological writings, young women often became witches in order to become attractive with the help of magic, so that men would want them. Similarly, a woman would become a witch in order to bring her man back, who left her or to separate him from his beloved girlfriend, her rival.

In their practice the Bosnian witches used various ways to cast love spells on men, and the most famous one is the one with white beans. The ritual was performed as follows:

At night, when no one is around, the witch would take an axe and place it behind the entrance door along with nine white beans on which she urinated on. Then the witch goes to the fire place inside the house and places the beans in the ash near the fire. She would then utter: "the beans crackle, bah bahti, the axe behind the door and X in front of it. Die, burst until you come to me, with Gods power and my merit, veledalin amin".

She would then blow three times in the direction of the man and then she would swallow her spit. The witch stirs the beans in a circle with a metal spoon, takes the axe and brings it and places it next to her feet, and then she stirs the beans with the spoon one more time and brings the axe back behind the door. While doing this she utters:

"I am placing the axe behind the door; I am not placing the axe but the brain and wits of X behind the door. Die, burst until you come to me, with God's power and my merit.Veledalin amin".

After that she repeats the following words three times: "basmice, basmice sisters as ordained by God, bring me X there is the dark and the cloud, I am his shining sun and moon. Dark all around him and I am his only light, elzalif amin".

At the end she blows down her bosom three times, turns around and goes to bed.

It is believed that after this ritual the man who was the target of the ritual becomes plagued by an unexplainable longing and wish to see the woman as soon as he can. Because of the love magic the man cannot sleep nor concentrate on anything else. If he resists the urge to visit the witch strange blisters appear on his body and he suffers a high temperature for days. When he visits the woman, and as soon as he lays his eyes on her, all of the symptoms disappear immediately.

They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Praised, Him unto whom the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth belongs, and Allah is witness to all things. Surely those who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not will have the doom of hell, and they will have the doom of burning.“
O God, make the heart of N. burn with the love of N., by the right of „An 'ifrit of the jinn said, „I will bring it unto you before you rise from your place. And most surely I am strong and trustworthy for such work“.
