Lest we forget!!! It did not all start on October 7th!
Just these days marks the anniversary of the attack on the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, which was carried out on July 22, 1946, by members of the Zionist organization Irgun. In the explosion and collapse of the hotel's southern wing, which housed the offices of the British administration but also numerous civilians, 91 people were killed. Only 13 of the victims were soldiers.
The organization was led by Menachem Begin, who three decades later became the Israeli Prime Minister, and subsequently received the Nobel Peace Prize. Amichai Paglin, the man who designed the technical execution of the attack, was later appointed as an advisor to the Israeli government for the fight against terrorism.
This case shows how much political labels change after power is seized. A bomb becomes an "operation", a terrorist a "freedom fighter", and civilian victims just an uncomfortable footnote in history written by the winners.
State office and a Nobel Prize can change the public narrative, but they cannot erase 91 lost lives.
